Route description
The Romania Maramureș off-road route leads through one of the least commercialized regions of Romania. It is ideal for crews who want to combine real off-road driving among wild nature and beautiful landscapes with relaxed, unhurried travel.
The entire route described in the Off-Road Guide RO1/EN is 670 km long. It was planned for 8 days and designed so that daily driving stages do not exceed six hours, including time for rest, sightseeing, meals and shopping.
The route mainly runs through mountainous terrain and includes sections with varying difficulty levels. Some parts are truly challenging, but they can be bypassed according to the instructions in the Guide. For those interested, an additional extreme section is also available.
Accommodation is planned mainly as wild camping using your own camping equipment. We additionally recommend spending two nights under a roof in a hotel and guesthouse.
The route includes places such as Lake Călinești, Turt, Huta Certeze, Săpânța, Sighetu Marmației, Baia Sprie, the wooden church in Șurdești, Botiza, Bogdan Vodă, the Maramureș Mountains and the Prislop Pass.
