Lithuania 4×4 Off-Road Route

off-road guide expedition route Lithuania LT1EN

Route description

The Lithuania off-road route allows you to explore the entire country. It has a sightseeing character and is designed for people looking for relaxed driving, contact with nature, and vast uninhabited spaces, without the pressure of difficult off-road obstacles, while also discovering the main tourist attractions.

The entire route is approximately 1,710 km long and was planned for 10 days. It forms a loop and is divided into ten daily stages, each requiring around six hours of driving. This allows for a relaxed pace and leaves enough time for rest and sightseeing.

This is an easy off-road route, suitable for stock off-road vehicles and SUVs. There are no steep climbs or technical sections — the route mainly follows forest roads, gravel roads, and local roads, ideal for smooth and recreational driving.

Accommodation is planned as wild camping or campsites. Your own camping equipment is required. The route passes many locations by lakes, rivers, and the sea, where it is possible to stay longer.

The route includes both natural and cultural attractions. Highlights include: the resort town of Druskininkai, Dzūkija National Park, Merkinė, the Runyškės open-air museum, Kaunas Old Town, Trakai Castle, the Tiškevičiai Palace in Užutrakis, Vilnius Old Town, Kernavė (the Lithuanian Troy), Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, the town of Visaginas (a Lithuanian equivalent of Chernobyl), the castle, manor house and brewery (beer museum) in Biržai, the Hill of Crosses, Samogitian National Park, the seaside resort of Palanga with the Amber Museum, Klaipėda (maritime museum and dolphinarium), the Curonian Spit, and the Nemunas Delta.
