Description of the route
The Romania Transylvania off-road route leads through the best-known region of Romania among 4×4 off-road enthusiasts. Its popularity comes mainly from the Carpathian Mountains, long mountain sections and the large number of roads suitable for off-road driving. Another distinctive feature of the region are places associated with the Dracula legend and historic landmarks scattered across Transylvania.
The route is 1397 km long. It has been planned for 11 days in such a way that daily driving stages do not exceed six hours, while allowing time for breaks, sightseeing and rest.
The route combines off-road and asphalt sections. It is not designed for extreme off-road driving, but rather for touring in a 4×4 vehicle, including family trips. However, in bad weather some sections may still become demanding even for more experienced crews.
Accommodation is planned mainly as wild camping and campsites, with the option of using hotels or guesthouses as well.
The route includes places such as Oradea, Apuseni National Park, Padiș Plateau, Scărișoara Cave, the Turda salt mine, Sighișoara, Brașov and castles connected with the Dracula legend. The itinerary also includes driving the famous Strategica, Transfăgărășan and Transalpina roads, although formally they lie outside Transylvania.
